A.I. is a troubling masterwork of cinema: definitely Spielberg’s best, most provocative picture.
It has very little action, and rejects the blockbuster template outright, so it threw audiences for a loop. But there is SO MUCH to admire and think about here.
Bravely, it dares to be true sci-fi in a culture that prefers the genre to be watered-down and entertaining.
